Damilola Taylor Centre
Peckham, London SE15
Named to commemorate the memory of
a young victim of violence, the Damiola
Taylor Centre offers a wide range of
sports and youth training activities for the
11 to 25 year age group. The centre is
operated by Southwark Council.
Saltash Enterprises gained the contract
for the complete refurbishment and
partial rebuild of an existing building to
create a modern multi-functional centre
to serve the young of the local community.
The refurbishment programme was
funded by Southwark Council supported
by charitable donations.
With such a high-profile social project it
was imperative that Southwark Council
awarded the contract to a contractor that
would not default on any aspect of
performance whilst at the same time
provide best value.
Saltash carried out a customised value
engineering exercise to provide benefits
at major cost areas.
The refurbishment project covered
complete redesign and renovation of the
main activity hall, the creation of
additional meeting / function rooms, and
new entrance hall foyer, improvements to
the disabled persons access facilities and
redesign of the building front elevation.
The project was planned to cover a
36 week period and was completed by
Saltash on time and within budget.
